How Long Does a Deck Last?

Modern materials have made it possible for a deck to last 30 to 50 years! The question is will your frame be able to last that long?

Old Wood Deck Joists with Splits

Most homeowners don't realize that a deck is a system, and a system is only as strong as its weakest point.

The Problem: The "Lifespan Mismatch" Modern composite decking (like the Fiberon lines we use) is designed to last 30–50 years. That is a lifetime of enjoyment. However, traditional pressure-treated lumber frames only last 10–15 yearsbefore moisture, rot, and insects take their toll.

  • The Result: You end up with a structurally compromised frame underneath pristine decking boards. You are forced to tear up expensive composite just to fix the rotting wood underneath.

The Solution: Matching the Frame to the Finish At Lenzi Construction, we believe the bones of your deck should last as long as the surface. That is why we have moved exclusively to Cold-Formed Steel framing. Steel doesn't rot, warp, or feed termites. It provides a 30 - 50 year structure for your 30 - 50 year decking.

Going 100% Wood-Free: The Ultimate Upgrade

For the homeowner who wants absolute peace of mind, we go even further. While standard decks still use pressure-treated wood for ground posts and stair stringers, we offer the option to replace these final wood elements with Structural Composite Framing or Steel Posts.

  • No Rotting Posts: Wood posts buried in the ground are the first to fail. Structural composite is impervious to ground moisture.

  • Stable Stairs: Wood stair stringers are notorious for cracking and warping. Composite or steel stringers stay dead-straight forever.

By removing the wood entirely, we create a deck that is 100% synthetic and inorganic. No rot. No mold. No structural degradation.
